About this cause

The Kirriemuir and Dean Area Partnership is a charity that promotes community development in the town of Kirriemuir. The partnership runs a variety of projects, including the planting group that looks after all the flower displays in the town; the Christmas lights group that last year took over the Christmas display; and it's main activity, Kirrie Connections: The Dementia Friendly Kirriemuir Project. Kirrie Connections is a dementia friendly community hub in the heart of Kirriemuir. It offers support and activities to local people who are living with dementia and their carers. The group also created a dementia friendly garden in the town that is open for anyone in the community to enjoy.

How this cause brings people in the community together

It is estimated that there are 90,000 people living with dementia in Scotland, and the number of individuals in Kirriemuir with dementia is higher than the national average. These numbers are predicted to double over the next 20 years. By making Kirriemuir a dementia friendly town we are leading the way in making sure the quality of life for these individuals is as good as it can be.
