About this cause
Canolfan Pentre is a volunteer run community asset transfer project. We are a team of around 8 volunteers who run this project, we provide a social, learning and safe environment for community members of all ages working in conjunction with valleys kids, communities first and other similar organisations. We have been running since February 2016 and have gone from strength to strength. We try to combat loneliness in the over 50s, after school clubs for our younger members, job clubs and help with applications. We also have a well attended bingo club and parent and toddler twice weekly. We run as many projects to combat loneliness and isolation as possible. We live in a highly deprived and desperate area, in the last five years we have lost our school, library, day centre and park pool.
How this cause brings people in the community together
This project will help our community by enabling members to gain access to a wider variety of experiences. Some of our members find it difficult to travel out of the community, this may be because of disability, age or financial problems. Younger members would benefit from this money as we live in a disadvantaged area with little or no amenities. Our centre is a lifeline to our community.
