About this cause

The Give a Dog a Bone charity supports the over 60s to afford a rescue pet companion, tackling loneliness for the individual and homelessness for the animal. If you have a friend or family member who would love a pet companion, but are put off by the costs involved, this charity can help! Where money is a genuine barrier to adopting, the charity can pay rehoming fees for rescue animals and also support, each month, with the cost of pet food and insurance. Over and above financial support, the charity arranges group dog walks for local retired people, providing social and canine companionship - creating a space to make new friends and enjoy gentle exercise. With the Coop's support, the charity can continue to expand its unique and award winning work.

How this cause brings people in the community together

It is our mission to do more outreach work in the community. We already know our work is making a huge difference in the lives of both retired people and also rescue animals. Animal companionship provides routine in a day and a reason to wake in the morning. It is someone to greet you when you come home and retired people benefit greatly, particularly if they live alone or are recently bereaved
