Me2 Club
Social Inclusion
We want to recruit, train and support volunteers so children with additional needs can join in with a weekly mainstream leisure activity
About this cause
Since 2003 Me2 Club has enabled young people with additional needs & disabilities (aged 5-19 years) throughout Wokingham Borough to attend a mainstream activity of their choice. The young people we support struggle to access activities (eg sports clubs & scout/guide groups) because of their needs, resulting in social isolation, lack of confidence & low self-esteem. Last year, our amazing volunteers supported 92 young people to take part in activities they would not otherwise have been able to access. In addition to our core work we run residential 'Weekends Away' offering opportunities for young people to have fun whilst families get valuable respite. We also provide comprehensive Inclusion Training to mainstream activity leaders in order to make their groups more accessible and welcoming.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We provide an enjoyable volunteering project for people, who with our training and support can make a positive difference in their local community. Volunteers are given opportunities to meet new people and our comprehensive induction and development training programme also embeds skills that many volunteers carry forward. “I wanted the chance to volunteer for a Charity with such a caring ethos."
