About this cause

The Phoenix Youth Project (PYP) a is modern, forward thinking, engaging, and exciting Youth Work Project working with marginalised and disadvantaged young people aged 8 -19 years old in the deprived areas of Cleator Moor, Frizington, and Moor Row. We annually work with over 500 different young people. We aim to; raise aspirations, develop positive behaviour, encourage healthy lifestyles and reduce crime, discriminatory and anti-social behaviour. This enables us to serve the social, recreational and emotional needs of the children and young people in the area as well as supporting the wider local community. To make this provision sustainable we strive to engage with local community members, young people and parents to become actively involved in the development of the project.

How this cause brings people in the community together

All too often, young people find themselves branded as ‘thugs’ or ‘yobs’ due to negative media portrayals, and this project endeavours to depict a more accurate view. The project promotes positive images of young people through their efforts and giving back type activities. It provides opportunities for young people to take on empowered roles within the community. This clearly benefits all locally
