We'd like to take families on day trips they would otherwise not be able to afford. Money would be spent on food, drink and travel.
About this cause
Holiday Hunger is a known and recognised issue right across our nation. Sittingbourne Holiday Club runs in every school holiday to provide meals and fun activities for families who are otherwise struggling financially. Many of our families would normally receive free school meals, so during the holidays, particularly the long Summer holidays, parents are struggling to feed their children healthy, nutritious meals and are often going without food themselves in order to feed their children. At Sittingbourne Holiday Club, we feed the whole family to ensure that they are getting one good meal that day. Last year, we ran once a week and had a very successful time with our families. This year, we are looking at running twice a week to enable us to help these families even more.
How this cause brings people in the community together
We would like to target some of our towns needier families by liaising with local school FLO's, social services & health visitors who can then refer families in need to us. Reducing Holiday Hunger will reduce the need for families to visit foodbanks during the holidays. The free activities will get hungry children who are currently playing in the streets off the streets and engaged with us.
