About this cause

DRUM is a small, local charity and user-led group providing day activities and support to adults with physical and/or sensory disabilities and their carers. DRUM is the only service of its kind in Watford and the surrounding areas. Sessions include activities in art, crafts, textiles, ceramics, sport, yoga, tai chi, workshops in creative writing, drama, music, dance and in-house services such as a hairdresser and chiropodist. DRUM also organise day trips and social events, provide transport, refreshments and a hot lunch. The majority of DRUM members have acquired a disability through an accident or illness such as a stroke, MS, Parkinson’s, brain or spinal injuries. DRUM enables people to make new friends, learn new skills, keep active, stay healthy, regain independence & confidence.

How this cause brings people in the community together

DRUM provides an opportunity for disabled people and carers to meet others in a similar situation, share experiences, support each other, learn new skills, keep active & stay healthy. Attending DRUM improves physical and mental health, cognitive skills and functioning, mobility, co-ordination, speech and memory, reducing isolation, stress, anxiety, raising confidence and regaining independence.
