New Gleadless Library and Community Hub
Social Inclusion
We want to make our library more vibrant and exciting and welcoming with new books and furniture.
About this cause
This is an ex-council library which has been taken over by volunteers who run the library 4 days per week. We provide adult and children's books for home use, as well as computer use within the building. We hold a variety of community groups such as computer courses, coffee mornings, language courses which are free for public use. We also hold our own fundraising events selling bric a brac, books, etc to raise funds for the building. We hold children's activity groups and toddler groups for local parents to participate and meet others. We hold a craft club which makes craft items for sale at the fundraising events and also teaches paper crafts and card making to a variety of adults with a variety of needs. They also have knitting and croqueting.
How this cause brings people in the community together
It is a community based library and community centre for the whole community, for adults and children to use and to improve learning skills.
