About this cause

Woodchurch Methodist Church Centre provides excellent facilities for community gathering, worship and activity. The Church will celebrate 60 years in 2018 and we intend to grow the centre as a continuing hub for worship and learning to meet the needs and requests of our community. The church is open 7 days per week with a full diary of activities including; computer training, card making, a dance group, youth club, Knit and Natter group, and lunches. In addition there are groups that offer support for bereavement and domestic abuse. We offer courses in gardening, floristry, maths, bread making, dementia and gentle exercises. Our priority is to work alongside older people to help alleviate isolation and therefore loneliness.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The project will celebrate the 60th anniversary opening of the church by holding a day for older people facing loneliness and isolation. It will make connections through a range of workshops, fun activities, nostalgia films, refreshments and registration to community groups. There will be health sessions on Dementia and gentle exercises. Refreshments and light lunches will be available. There will be bread making, cakes and locally grown vegetables on sale. In various rooms chairs will be laid out for small workshops, demonstrations and advice giving. A light hearted feature film will have a repeat showing in the main church. Representatives from a range of services will be on hand to facilitate these conversations.
