About this cause

Moorvision is a support group for families of blind and visually impaired children and young people aged from 0 – 25. We support 125 families by providing activities, support & information. Sight loss is a very rare disability in childhood the group is the only chance most of our children have to meet others in the same position. We offer free or very heavily subsidised, regular and exciting family days out including sports – football, swimming, climbing, canoeing etc; arts – tactile art workshops, tactile art exhibitions, audio described theatre trips; social and leisure opportunities; parent/carer information evenings and training days; residential activity weekends; a regular newsletter; an information database; a website and an active Facebook page and Twitter account.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Blind children are not common and so often marginalised in their educational and other settings. It is so vital for them to spend time with other blind children and their families and to take part in activities in a safe way as this really improves their independence. The strength and independence the children gain, and the knowledge their parents gain from being with other similar families, often means that the children do better when they return to their local schools and colleges, but they are more likely to find work, and that their parents are also able to return to work in the community. Sight loss is a huge challenge to the family of a blind child and they need as much support as we can give them.
