About this cause

St. Helen's is the last place of worship in the village of Kelloe. We are here to celebrate Baptisms, Weddings and to lay our loved ones to rest. We have schoolchildren for history lessons. . They celebrate Easter, Harvest and Christmas services at the church. Walking groups call for afternoon tea. International and wider community visit to view and photograph the priceless cross of St. Helen mother of First Roman Emperor Constantine. The Poetess Elizabeth Barrett Browning was baptised in the church in the font we use today. We celebrate her life every year the last Saturday in June with songs, sketches, stalls and afternoon tea. This is well attended by the local and wider community. September we open the church for 3 days for Heritage weekend with 100 visitors from across the country.

How this cause brings people in the community together

The Quinquennial inspection of 2014 discovered grave deteriation of a large amount of stonework which needs replacing as well as a necessary re-pointing of the entire church. Also the nave roof needs replacing. The only place of worship in the village for Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals not only from Kelloe but used by neighbouring villages. The schoolchildren have History lessons and the Easter, Harvest and Christmas services are prepared and delivered by themselves. The uploaded image is one of our Elizabeth Barrett Browning celebration days which are enjoyed by the local and wider community.
