About this cause

Barnard Castle District Guides, under the umbrella of the Girlguiding Association which has been established for over 100 years, provides opportunities for girls aged 5 upwards to form friendships and have fun through weekly meetings and ad-hoc activity sessions. At the heart of the Girlguiding ethos is the commitment to helping others and being a good citizen. During their time in Girlguiding, girls build up their self confidence and self esteem, access new opportunities and learn to think of and respect others, through games, crafts and challenges. Girls work towards achieving challenge badges under the guidance of the Unit Leaders and Helpers who all give their time on a voluntary basis. This year the Rainbows are celebrating their 30th birthday of guiding.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Barnard Castle District Guides is made up of 2 Rainbow units, 3 Brownie units and 1 Guide unit. Volunteers work hard to achieve leadership status to run the units. In September 2017 Girlguiding North East are running "Flamingo Fling" where units from across the North East will join together at Flamingo Land, Malton, North Yorkshire. We would like to take the girls from our District to be part of this exciting initiative, where they will meet other like-minded girls from units across the North East of England. Throughout the day activities will be provided by Girlguiding which will give the girls opportunities to learn and have fun. Funding will help fund the cost of attending and transport to and from the venue.
