About this cause

Tyneside and Northumberland Mind exists to promote positive mental health, providing flexible, responsive and sustainable support services. We put people first by involving service users, carers and local community. We do all this to make it possible for people who experience mental distress to live full lives and play their full part in society. We offer a range of services based on the Recovery model where all services are focused on improving and enhancing an individual’s well-being, based on the principles and practices of person centered planning and self-directed support. Our services are based on the principles of Well-being, Recovery, Resilience and Prevention. We rely on donations and fundraising activities to fund our programmes.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Our Safe Space service aims to improve clients' mental health and well-being, by providing them with an opportunity to join a supportive peer group where they can meet people who have mental health problems and who may be able to help due to their own experiences. By attending the group it can reduce the time people spend alone and can build social confidence by meeting others and developing friendships. People can attend regularly or can drop-in as they need it. Those who attend come from diverse backgrounds and social status. It is a non-judgmental group founded in the belief that mutual respect encourages honest communication, where clients feel able to discuss their situation, opinions and feelings in a secure environment.
