Manchester Cares
People: Improving people’s mental wellbeing
Our plan is to transition back to in-person social clubs and one-to-one-friendships, while reaching out to those most isolated through our outreach work, tech training and remote activity packs.

About this cause
Manchester Cares is a community network bringing older (65+) and younger neighbours (18-35) together to tackle loneliness and isolation for the two age groups most at risk. We aim to bridge social, generational, digital, cultural and attitudinal divides, and increase participants’ sense of community, wellbeing and belonging, to promote and nurture a community that’s diverse and inclusive.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Isolation and loneliness have a strong connection to several mental health conditions, many worsened by lockdown. Our programmes build connection, friendships and a sense of community, and have been a critical support during these difficult times. We’ll deliver 12 Social Clubs per month, support 70 one-to-one friendship matches, and send activity packs to 690 older and 500 younger neighbours.
