About this cause

Age Concern Bracknell Forest is a small independent charity formed in 1972 to help older people their families and carers in whatever way is deemed charitable. Our main activities are day care for dementia sufferers; social and informative events; and a telephone help line. Our most popular event is our “Get Together” at Priestwood Community centre which attracts around 50 people per week. These are weekly events for older people that would otherwise have little or no social contact due to illness, disability, poverty or lack of transport. We offer a variety of activities designed to encourage age appropriate exercise, mental stimulation and to reduce social isolation. These sessions are also an opportunity to signpost people to services available to help with issues that may arise.

How this cause brings people in the community together

Priestwood has a large older population and a restricted bus service so many people are unable to get out. Having an event with transport and in walking distance means that the maximum number of people benefit. Great friendships have been formed and new comers are always made welcome. Feedback “It’s so nice to be with other people instead of indoors on your own” “Everyone is so friendly”
