Longridge Youth Band Improvements
Education & Skills
We want to offer more musical learning opportunities to community residents of all ages and abilities whilst improving current equipment.
About this cause
Longridge Band has a proud and cherished history. Created in the 1840's, the band has been a member of the community and continues to enjoy such support. In 2010, it was decided to start a Youth Band conducted by local brass tutor whom also plays with the senior band. The Youth Band rehearse weekly in our band-room and has proved popular with participants growing from two initial members to 28 in July 2017. Beginners of all abilities are welcome - we have a small selection of instruments available to use. The Youth Band is supported by volunteers from the Senior Band whom all have current DBS certificates. We aim to provide opportunities for our community residents of all ages through learning, performing and enjoying brass music. We strive to offer further opportunities to our members.
How this cause brings people in the community together
Apart from wanting to learn to play a brass instrument, participants have/may realised some known links between playing a musical instrument and:- 1. Increased memory capacity, reading & comprehension skills and concentration 2. Improved team skills, co-ordination, listening skills & perseverance 3. Fostering self-expression, self-belief whilst relieving stress 4. Exposure to cultural history.
